The Campfire Sessions 2014 (Jul - Dec)

The Campfire Sessions are a series of videos recorded for the Tuesday Open Mic Night Group on Facebook. The group consists of mainly artists from Soundcloud who like to take part when they can  by posting their live performances of whatever instrument they play and sing along to.

Sometimes the group will have theme or a draw, the theme could be that you are required to do a mainstream artists song such as Bob Dylan or whoever it is that week as an example, that was chosen by the members in discussion in the group. The draw is that each members name goes into a hat, and is drawn out in pairs, and the two drawn out or paired together will have to do one of the other persons own written songs, so it makes it an interesting challenge.

You can of coarse just decide to do something you want to do yourself such as one of your own songs as an example, and no pressure is put upon you to take part in what the other members do in the group, but I feel it's a good thing to  join in and keep the spirit in the community of the group, and it's great to see how others go about doing their fine live renditions.

Jumping Jack Flash (My Acoustic Arrangement Of A Stones Classic)

Recorded for the Tuesday Night Open Mic Night Campfire on Tuesday 4th November 2014.

My own arrangement of the Rolling Stones classic song Jumping Jack Flash done for this week's special event week for the Campfire in which we had the choice of quite a few artists to pick from to do a cover of, and my personal choice was the Stones to which is a band I have loved since I was a kid ad followed since.

Love Song (An Acoustic Cover Of A Lesley Duncan Song)

Recorded for the Tuesday Night Open Mic Night Campfire on Tuesday 19th August 2014.

Back again this week with the Creaky Floorboards making their noise to a lovely song entitled "Love Song" which was written by Lesley Duncan and was released on her debut album Sing Children Sing back in 1971. It's very much an album that Elton John himself had helped Lesley out with by contributing his piano on some of the songs. Elton loved the song that much he decided to cover it himself and it can be found on his album Tumbleweed Connection to which Lesley also appeared on.

My acoustic version was to do the song in my own way with its arrangement here, and it's a song I have always liked and have both albums it came from by these two great artists.

Nice To Almost Know You (Steph Casey Cover)

Recorded as a Campfire Extra on Thursday 17th July 2014..

Steph's fabulous song "Nice To Almost Know You" was the first song I recorded for the Tuesday Night Open Mc Night Campfire back in July last year. I was never happy with it with all the noise coming from my creaky floorboards and even told Steph I would do it again at some point. Well a year later here it is, and I hope you enjoy...

Release The Dove (Bethany Sky Whitman Cover)

Recorded for the Tuesday Night Open Mic Night Campfire on Tuesday 29th July 2014.

"Release The Dove" is a fabulous song written by Bethany Sky Whitman. It's also the title song from  her fabulous EP she released last year. I have always loved this song of hers though my acoustic arranged version here would never match the fine quality of the way Beth done it in the studio with her fine voice.

Thank You (Led Zeppelin Acoustic Cover)

Recorded for the Tuesday Night Open Mic Night Campfire on Tuesday 12th August 2014.

My acoustic version of Led Zeppelin's brilliant song "Thank You". The original version was on their 2nd album Led Zeppelin II released in 1969 and as always been my favourite album of the band. Always have loved Robert Plant's voice and to me no doubt he had the best Rock voice I have heard out of all my favourite Rock Singers.

When I Wake Tomorrow (Collaboration On A Song By Steve Manuel)

Recorded for the Tuesday Night Open Mic Night Campfire on Monday 25th and put out on Tuesday 26th August 2014.

When I wake is a well fine written song by Steve Manuel and this one actually features him with me just lending a couple of hands on the piano and I also make a full appearance at the very end  when I pop up and add a touch of guitar to round it all off.

A Bit Of Fun (With The Cell Block H Theme)

Recorded for the Tuesday Night Open Mic Night Campfire Tuesday 23rd September 2014.

Just a bit a fun I had with the old song "He Used To Bring Me Roses" which was the the they used for the Australian TV Series Prisoner Cell Block H which I used to watch on the TV many moons ago now.

I simply replaced the original words with my own humorous ones which maybe funny or not but do however relate to how stupid some woman can be at times in relationships with the wrong bloke and cannot see it because love can be so strong at times...

Happy To Grow Old (When There's You) (Stripped Down Acoustic Version)

Recorded for the Tuesday Night Open Mic Night Campfire on Tuesday 9th September 2014.

A stripped down version of an original song I originally done with my good friend Conrad Thomas to which he wrote the music and I wrote the words. The studio version can be found on my cloud here: https://soundcloud.com/lee-lucas/lee-lucas-conrad-thomas-happy-to-grow-old-when-theres-you.

A Song In A Day (Original Song)

Recorded for the Tuesday Night Open Mic Night Campfire on Tuesday 16th September 2014.

"A Song In One Day" was written in one day and it was done today for the Campfire having picked up my guitar and found myself playing a Riff to which I stuck with and done the whole song. The song tells a fictional story of a broken down relationship and letting go so to speak.

Hey Joe (Acoustic Cover)

Recorded for the Tuesday Night Open Mic Campfire a day late on Wednesday 1st October 2014.

This is my rather bad acoustic version of a cover on an Hendrix classic, but what the heck I am not Jimi  and nowhere near him either. But I like the song a lot though I must confess I don't know the lyrics that well and sang them from the top of my head.

Oldtime Street (Original Song)

Revamped for the Tuesday Night Open Mic Night Campfire on the 14th October 2014.

Due to a sore throat and not being able to sing at all. I decided to revamp my old 2011 live acoustic video version of my 1994 song "Oldtime Street" for the campfire.  It's very much a song I have never posted in the campfire group before so I decided to remaster the sound from the original video and revamp the background up of the video footage with old film footage of my own town Birmingham.

Heartbreak Station (Cinderella Cover)

Recorded late for the Tuesday Night Open Mic Campfire on Tuesday 15th July 2014.

This is my acoustic arranged version of the rock band Cinderella classic song Heartbreak Station. It's a song I remember seeing the video to in the early hours of the morning in some music TV show something like Raw Power that used to show rock and prog rock videos. Having heard the song for the first time back then in 1990 I immediately went out and brought the album, and this happens to be the self titled album track from it, and it really is a cracking album.

I must admit I do like laying this song on the guitar, but it's one of those I really struggle to sing and in relation to the band themselves this would never cut the mustard. But hey I love the song, so here it is and I hope you enjoy.

January Song (Lindisfarne Cover)

Recorded for the Tuesday Night Open Mic Night Campfire on Tuesday 28th October 2014.

Far from perfect and a quick one shot take of a fine song written by Allan Hull from his early 70's years to which he done with the band he put together Lindisfarne. For me personally I am a big fan of Hull's fine songs, and Allan was such a prolific songwriter who wrote some well down to earth folk songs over the years he was alive.

He was without a doubt in my mind what I would call England's answer to Bob Dylan when it comes to song writing and he certainly was what one maybe could call the band Lindisfarne as he wrote most of the bands best songs by a long shot.

Though Allan wrote some truly great songs he done with that band which were far greater than "January Song" such as "Winter Song" to which is a true classic of his. I myself was very much more fond of Allan's solo material and his classic debut solo album Pipedream from 1973 is still even today not far from my turntable so to speak, and I could never tire of hearing that album.

Your Beautiful Jonny (A Very Blunt Version & Bit Of Fun)

Recorded for the Tuesday Night Open Mic Night Campfire on Tuesday 18th November 2014.

A bit of fun this week with a James Blunt song to which I know my good friend Jonny in the campfire personally does not like. So I felt I would do the famous Blunt song and dedicate it to him and threw in a few pics of him as well and do this just for him (LOL)

Valium Sky Beams (A Cover Of A Song By Jonny Cooke)

Recorded for the Tuesday Night Open Mic Night Campfire on Tuesday 2nd December 2014.

This week's song for the campfire is another monthly Special Event. The task this time around was that everyone's names from the group went into a hat and whoever you was drawn out with had to do a cover of one of their original songs, and he would likewise do the same.

I was drawn with my good friend Jonny Cooke and chose his great song Valium Sky Beams out of the many great songs Jonny has done over the years.

Mercy Street (An Acoustic Arrangement Of A peter Gabriel Classic)

Recorded for the Tuesday Open Mic Night campfire on Tuesday 16th December and posted a day late on the 17th.

Well this week I decided to do a song that I literally got out of bed singing on Tuesday morning and have never played it before either. So having had a few cups of coffee and doing some chores, in the late afternoon I decided to look up the chords to the song and to be honest did not like them as it would of meant me singing this Peter Gabriel classic song from his popular album SO entitled "Mercy Street" very much the way he does. So I very much played around with it and soon came up with my own chords to play it in, and having done so I still feel that I have very much sang it like Peter rather than myself (LOL)

Well I just cannot escape from the guy no matter how I try, but anyway here is my acoustic version of the classic song.

Merry Xmas Everybody (An Acoustic Arrangement Of Slades Classic Xmas Song)

Recorded Tuesday 23rd December 2014 For The Tuesday Night Open Mic Night Campfire Special Christmas Event.

Christmas is here again and I decided to do an acoustic version of my all time favourite Christmas song which was originally well Rocked up by Slade back in the 70's. It always has been the best rocking Christmas song by a mile I think with what they did with "Merry Xmas Everybody" closely followed by "I Wish it Could Be Christmas Everyday" by Wizzard.
