The Campfire Sessions 2015 (Jan - Jul)

The Campfire Sessions are a series of videos recorded for the Tuesday Open Mic Night Group on Facebook. The group consists of mainly artists from Soundcloud who like to take part when they can  by posting their live performances of whatever instrument they play and sing along to.

Sometimes the group will have theme or a draw, the theme could be that you are required to do a mainstream artists song such as Bob Dylan or whoever it is that week as an example, that was chosen by the members in discussion in the group. The draw is that each members name goes into a hat, and is drawn out in pairs, and the two drawn out or paired together will have to do one of the other persons own written songs, so it makes it an interesting challenge.

You can of coarse just decide to do something you want to do yourself such as one of your own songs as an example, and no pressure is put upon you to take part in what the other members do in the group, but I feel it's a good thing to  join in and keep the spirit in the community of the group, and it's great to see how others go about doing their fine live renditions.

Badge (An Arrranged Acoustic Cover Of A Cream Classic)

Recorded for the Tuesday Night Open Mic Night Campfire 6th January 2015 and posted on the 7th January 2015.

Just a quickie I knocked up late on Tuesday night and done the video on the Wednesday hence it being late. Badge is a song with a very strange title that's title came about entirely by mistake after Clapton had mistakenly misread the word Bridge on the music sheet and thought it read Badge.

Another Year and Another Day (An Acoustic Take Of My Original Song)

Recorded for the Tuesday Night Open Mic Night on Wednesday 31st December 2014 and purposely posted late on New Year's Day 1st January 2015.

This is an acoustic take of my original song I wrote on the 31st December 2011 and put out on Soundcloud on New Year's day the 1st January 2012. It's a song that does not have many words at all, but what little it has is very much how I feel about every new year when it's upon us. As we all get older we soon find out that many of our family and friends are no longer with us. For me I will never forget them and they will always be with us all I am sure.

Each year is another nail towards your own coffin, and now I am older I never bother celebrating it, and never see it really as nothing to celebrate. At the end of the day it's just Another Year and Another Day. This is dedicated for all those who are lost, and may they rest in peace and never be forgotten.

Remembering The Good Time (Original Song)

Recorded for the Tuesday Night Open Mic Night Campfire. A day late on Wednesday 18th February 2015.

"Remembering The Good Times" is a song I wrote back in 2003 whilst I was on holiday in Benidorm Spain. I say wrote but in reality it was only the music and only the very first verse I ever wrote regarding it's lyrics, cause that's what stuck in my head, and every time I have ever played it up until the weekend just gone, I just sang anything to it.

The melody and the chords where very much instantly threw together on the spot, and not on my own guitar either. For some reason the tune just stuck in my head, even when I got back from my holidays.

It was during my holiday and stay in Benidorm I decided to visit a little fishing village called Villajoyosa. The village itself had a fascinating piece of history and story behind it which made me want to go there in the first place, and all the houses were all painted different colours. Even now it's perhaps deserted and run down, it's still quite colourful.

The very reason why all the houses were painted different colours, was because the fishermen would go to work catching the fish in the sea and they often drank heavily and got drunk. When they returned in the dark early hours of the morning they would often end up in the wrong house, bed and with the wrong wife.

The wife's had enough of it all and made their husbands each paint their houses a different colour. so they would know who's bed to go back too.

It was during my visit here that I came across a chap on the beach there sitting on a rock by the sea playing a guitar. I went over to him and asked if he did not mind me filming him on my camcorder.

He obliged and after he played a lovely piece of Spanish music he asked me if I played. I told him well I do a bit, but not quite as good as what you can at all, and I just like to play a few chords and like to sing along with it.

So he asked me to play him something on his guitar. To be honest I was quite nervous at the time having seen him play so well, and for the life of me I could not think of anything to play. The thing I did play to him was this very tune which I made up instantly on the spot, and just sang anything to it.

Afterwards the chap told me you have a great voice and you should play the guitar more.

Well over the weekend I decided to finally write some lyrics for this little tune. Nothing special and just in a cheerful and happy way.

The lyrics them self I wrote were not based around Villajoyosa but many other holiday places I have been too. The thing I love about holidays is the fact that everybody who is on holiday as that buzz and happy feel about them. They are very happy times and that is what the words really reflect here.

corded for the Tuesday Night Open Mic Night Campfire 6th January 2015 and posted on the 7th January 2015.

The Only Living Boy IN new York (An Arrranged Version Of A Simon & Garfunkle Classic)

Recorded for the Tuesday Night Open Mic Night Campfire on Monday 9th March and poosted on Tuesday 10th March 2015.

I have always loved Simon & Garfunkle ever since I was a child and heard them in the 60's. I spent a lot of my youth singing them whilst my brother Martin played them on the guitar, though I must confess since having a guitar much later on in life, apart from tinkling around with a couple of their songs, I have never actually done one all the way through, and never even played this classic of theirs at all. This version you are hearing of "The Only Living Boy In New York" was knocked out in one take and recorded instantly on the spot.

You Thrill Me (Out Of The Blue)

Recorded for the Tuesday Night Open Mic Night Campfire on Monday 27th July and posted today on the 28th July.

It's been a while since I done something for the Campfire and as I had no idea what to do, this one just came out of the blue instantly as I put my hands to the keys and tinkled over a few chords.

As I was playing in Eb this old tune sprung to mind, but for the life of me I could not remember the words or who done it. So I just improvised and sang anything from the top of my head as I went along. Then later on I googled the words "You Thrill Me" only to find out that the words were in fact "You Send Me" and it was originally by the late great Sam Cooke.
